NEWS
Grey Cast Iron Reducer Accessories Industry knowledge

Yancheng Longwan Machinery Co., Ltd. is a Grey Cast Iron Reducer Accessories manufacturer working from a 33,000 m² foundry in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Founded in 2006, we cast and machine reducer housings, bases, covers and related drive components to customer drawings and samples, alongside fire-fighting pipe fittings, automotive parts, agricultural machinery parts and industrial robot components. Terminal clients include SAIC Group, Deere, Bonfiglioli (China), Shanghai Beixu and Yaskawa Electric.

Our Position in Grey Iron Reducer Castings

Reducer work is one of our core casting families, not a sideline. Grey iron gives us the design freedom to cast ribs, bosses, bearing bores and oil-return channels in one piece, and the graphite flake structure absorbs the vibration and heat that gear meshing produces. Our casting programme covers both grey cast iron and ductile cast iron reducer accessories, so a housing can be quoted in the material that matches its stress state rather than the one already in our catalogue.

  • Custom production only — every reducer casting is made against your drawing or a physical sample.
  • Molding, melting, cleaning, machining and inspection handled inside one plant.
  • Recurring series supply, with repeat orders running on the same pattern and process route.
  • IATF 16949:2016 system standard applied across the production flow.

Reducer Component Types and Application Fit

The accessory family covers the structural and closing elements of a speed reducer or gearbox. Each type carries a different set of demands — housing walls must stay rigid under torque reaction, covers must seal, bases must sit flat against a frame and transfer load without distortion.

  • Housings and gear cases — split and monobloc bodies with bearing bores, stiffening ribs and mounting flanges.
  • Bases and mounting feet — flat-bottomed supports where flatness and bolt-hole position govern assembly.
  • Top covers, inspection covers and end covers — closing parts with sealing faces and fastener patterns.
  • Bearing caps, bearing housings and adapter plates — bores that must hold concentricity with the shaft line.
  • Flanges and connection bodies — interface parts where the mating envelope is fixed by the customer's gear unit.

Typical end applications are industrial gearboxes and reducers, tractor and harvester drive lines, robot joint and base modules, automotive transmission and axle components, pump drives and fire-fighting equipment assemblies — the same fields served by our grey cast iron agricultural machinery parts range.

Material Selection: Grey Iron or Ductile Iron

We confirm the material designation on the drawing before pattern work starts. Reducer drawings commonly arrive with grey iron grades in the HT200–HT300 family, EN 1561 EN-GJL-200 to EN-GJL-300, or ASTM A48 Class 30 to Class 40; where the part sees impact or high bending stress, nodular iron is the better choice.

Material Graphite form Behaviour that matters Where it fits in a reducer
Grey cast iron Flake High vibration damping, good thermal conductivity, wear resistance, low notch sensitivity Housings, gear cases, bases, covers, oil pans
Ductile cast iron Nodular Higher tensile strength and elongation, better impact and fatigue resistance Bearing caps, mounting brackets, stressed covers, output flanges

Molding Capacity and Part-Size Fit

Part size decides the molding route. We run boxless shot-press lines for high-volume small and medium reducer parts, with a larger lost foam line in planning for heavy housings in the 100 kg to 1,000 kg range.

Production asset Size / specification Output rate Best-fit part profile
Vertical sand-shot, horizontal parting, boxless shot-press line 610 × 510 × 240 mm 120 boxes/hour Small covers, end caps, flanges, bushings in volume
Upper and lower sand-shot, horizontal parting, boxless shot-press line 750 × 650 × 250 mm 100 boxes/hour Small and medium housings, bases, bearing caps
Clay sand lines (2 automatic, 1 semi-automatic) and coated sand line Series production 15,000 t annual capacity Recurring reducer programmes with stable demand
Lost foam line (in planning) 100 kg – 1,000 kg castings Heavy-section route Large housings and gear cases

Melting is handled by three 1.25 t medium-frequency electric furnaces, giving us control over chemistry between heats. Three cleaning shot blasting machines and a grinding line finish the as-cast surface before any machining step.

Machining, Tooling and Finishing Scope

We machine castings on three CNC lathes and three lathes, which suits reducer parts dominated by turned bores, faces and spigots. Coated sand cores are produced in-house for internal cavities, oil galleries and cored passages. Automatic spray painting and electrophoretic coating lines are in planning, so protective finishes can be discussed as part of the process route.

Drawings that specify machined bores, sealing faces or dowel holes are reviewed against the casting layout before patterns are cut, so machining stock and datum choice are settled once rather than corrected at the sample stage.

Quality Control and Acceptance Testing

Inspection runs through the whole route: incoming raw material, melting and pouring, molding sand, cleaning and the finished casting. Equipment on site covers material properties, internal soundness and dimensional verification, and we carry out a full inspection of finished parts before shipment.

Check Equipment What it confirms
Chemical composition German SPECTRO direct-reading spectrometer Carbon, silicon, manganese and alloy content against the specified grade
Mechanical properties Tensile testing machine, 3T Brinell hardness tester Tensile strength, hardness range and consistency between heats
Microstructure Metallographic microscope, sonic velocity meter Graphite form, matrix condition and section soundness
Internal and surface defects Magnetic particle and ultrasonic flaw detectors Cracks, porosity and inclusions in critical sections
Molding sand control SAC hammer sampler, SWY hydraulic strength tester, SSZ vibrating screener, SGS infrared dryer Sand strength, moisture and grain condition behind dimensional stability

Our ODM Process: From Drawing to Delivered Casting

  1. Drawing or sample review and quotation — we read the drawing, confirm the material and machining scope, and quote on that basis.
  2. Pattern and mould making — patterns are built after the mould order is placed.
  3. Sample castings — real samples are produced from the pattern and sent for your confirmation.
  4. Series production — mass production starts after sample approval and order release.
  5. Inspection — our inspectors complete final checks, or the customer inspects together with us.
  6. Shipment — goods are released once the inspection result and your confirmation are in place.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

A reducer accessory quotation is only as good as the input behind it. These are the items we work from when preparing a configuration and price:

  • 2D drawing or 3D model, plus a sample where one exists, with the current revision level.
  • Material designation, hardness requirement and any microstructure condition.
  • Annual volume, batch size and expected call-off pattern.
  • Machining scope — as-cast, semi-finished or fully machined, with critical dimensions and datums marked.
  • Surface treatment, painting or coating requirement.
  • Inspection and acceptance criteria, including any sampling plan or report format.
  • Packaging method, pallet or bin type, labelling and delivery destination.
  • Applicable standard or customer specification that the part must satisfy.

Packaging, Delivery and Support

Finished castings are packed to suit the shipping method and the handling expected at your plant, and packaging design can be adapted to your requirement. Sea freight is our standard route for export consignments; air freight is available when timing is tight, with Ningbo Airport and Shanghai International Airport close to the plant. Our products ship mainly to Germany, Japan, Italy, South Korea and Australia.

After-sales support runs through a dedicated team, with online response covering technical questions on fitting, reordering and running changes. Spare patterns are retained so repeat programmes do not restart from zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

What reducer components do you cast in grey iron?

Housings, gear cases, bases and mounting feet, top and inspection covers, end covers, bearing caps, adapter plates and flanges. All are produced to your drawing or sample — we do not hold a standard parts catalogue.

Which grey iron grades can you supply?

We produce to the grade stated on your drawing and verify it with a direct-reading spectrometer, a tensile testing machine and a 3T Brinell hardness tester. Where the drawing leaves the grade open, we recommend a designation based on wall thickness, bearing load and the required hardness range.

Can you supply machined reducer castings rather than as-cast parts?

Yes. Three CNC lathes and three lathes handle turned bores, faces and spigots, and the machining scope is agreed at quotation stage so stock allowance is built into the pattern.

What part sizes and volumes fit your moulding lines?

The 610 × 510 × 240 mm line runs small parts at 120 boxes per hour; the 750 × 650 × 250 mm line runs small and medium parts at 100 boxes per hour. A lost foam line in planning will cover castings from 100 kg to 1,000 kg for larger housings.

How is quality controlled across the order?

Inspection is applied after each process stage, and finished castings receive a full inspection before shipment. Material performance checks, non-destructive testing and dimensional verification are carried out under our IATF 16949:2016 system standard.

What do you need from us to quote a reducer accessory?

Send the drawing or a sample with the material designation, annual volume and batch size, machining scope, surface finish requirement, inspection criteria, packaging method and delivery destination. We reply to enquiries within 24 hours of a working day.
