NEWS
Ductile iron Pipe Fittings Industry knowledge

Yancheng Longwan Machinery Co., Ltd. is a Ductile iron Pipe Fittings manufacturer working from a 33,000 m² foundry site in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, China. We cast and machine spheroidal graphite iron fittings for fire protection systems, water treatment plants and water distribution networks, producing to customer drawings or samples rather than from a fixed catalogue. Each quotation is built around the working pressure, joint type, bore and face dimensions, material grade, machining scope and finish the project defines.

Fitting production runs through the same melting, molding, cleaning and inspection flow as our valve, pump, reducer, automotive and agricultural castings, under IATF 16949:2016 system standards. Annual casting capacity reaches 15,000 tons across two fully automatic clay sand lines, one semi-automatic clay sand line and one coated sand line, with more than 120 employees including 10 technicians and 5 engineers.

Fitting Types and Where They Fit

Fire-fighting fittings are the core of this range: bodies used in sprinkler, standpipe and hydrant piping, where pressure retention and a reliable seal matter more than weight. Water-side parts serve treatment plants, pump rooms and distribution mains, where bore consistency, wall thickness and corrosion protection drive the casting design.

  • Elbows, tees, reducers, caps and adapters cast to drawing, with the joint configuration taken from the drawing — flanged, socket or grooved end.
  • Machine-faced connection bodies for valve and pump assemblies, where sealing faces, bolt circles and threads are finished on our CNC lathes.
  • Non-standard fittings and adapters developed from a supplied sample when no drawing exists, with a pattern built and an approval sample issued before mass production.
  • Flange drilling and bolt-hole patterns prepared to the standard named on the drawing, such as EN 1092-2 or ASME B16.1 face dimensions.
Fitting group Typical service Key specification drivers How we configure it
Fire protection fittings Sprinkler, standpipe and hydrant piping Pressure rating, joint type, flange drilling, coating Cast to drawing, machined faces and holes, shot-blasted and finished per project
Water treatment and distribution fittings Pump rooms, filtration lines, mains connections Bore and wall thickness, lining or coating, corrosion allowance Grade and wall section confirmed against the drawing before pattern work
Machine-faced connection bodies Valve, pump and reducer connections Face parallelism, bolt circle, gasket seat, thread form CNC turning of sealing faces; drilled and threaded features checked to gauge
Non-standard fittings and adapters Retrofit, bespoke and replacement pipelines Interface dimensions, space envelope, sample matching Drawn or reverse-engineered from sample, pattern made, approval sample submitted

Molding Capacity and Size Fit

Two boxless shot-press molding lines carry volume fitting work, supported by medium-frequency melting and standalone cleaning. Small fittings run most economically on the smaller flasks, while medium bodies move to the larger line.

  • Vertical sand-shot, horizontal parting boxless line: 610 × 510 × 240 mm, 120 boxes per hour — small parts in volume.
  • Upper and lower sand-shot, horizontal parting boxless line: 750 × 650 × 250 mm, 100 boxes per hour — small and medium parts.
  • Three 1.25 t medium-frequency electric furnaces for grade-controlled melting.
  • Three cleaning shot-blasting machines for as-cast surface preparation.
  • A lost foam line in planning for 100 kg to 1000 kg castings, extending the upper end of the size range.

Material, Mechanical and Metallurgical Control

The spheroidal graphite grade is fixed from the drawing or the referenced standard, and chemistry is verified before the castings leave melting. Verification uses equipment installed in our own laboratory rather than external sampling alone.

  • German SPECTRO direct-reading spectrometer for chemical composition on each heat.
  • Tensile testing machine for strength and elongation evidence on poured test bars.
  • 3 t Brinell hardness tester for surface hardness verification on fittings and machined bodies.
  • Sonic velocity meter and metallographic microscope for nodularity and matrix structure.
  • Molding sand control with SAC hammer-type sample making machine, SWY hydraulic strength testing machine, SSZ vibration-type sand screening machine and SGS double-disc infrared dryer.
  • Magnetic particle and ultrasonic flaw detection applied where the drawing or project specification requires it.

Machining, Joint Preparation and Finish

Fitting performance at the joint depends on machined geometry, so flange faces, gasket seats, spigots and threads are cut on our three CNC lathes and three lathes. Bore concentricity, face parallelism and bolt-hole position are the features we check against the drawing before a batch is closed.

Surface finish is quoted per project: as-cast, shot-blasted, primed or painted. An automatic spray painting line and an electrophoretic coating line are in planning, which will widen the standard finish routes available on fittings for buried and exposed service.

Quality Control and Acceptance

Our system standard is IATF 16949:2016, applied from incoming material through to final packing. Random checks are made on raw materials, in-process control prevents defects from travelling downstream, and finished castings undergo full inspection before shipment according to customer requirements and the referenced international standard.

  • Heat-level chemistry and mechanical test results retained for traceability.
  • Dimensional reports on critical machined features: bores, faces, bolt circles, threads.
  • Non-destructive examination results where specified.
  • Joint inspection with the customer's inspector at our works when a project calls for it.

Related Castings From the Same Foundry

Fittings sit within a wider ductile iron programme. Ductile Cast Iron covers the full material family we pour, from fire-fighting fittings to housings and brackets. Where a project pairs fittings with pipeline hardware, our Ductile Cast Iron Valve Accessories and Ductile Cast Iron Water Pump Accessories are produced on the same lines and inspected to the same regime, which simplifies a combined order.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

A fitting quotation is only as precise as the input behind it. These are the details that let us confirm the casting process, pattern, machining route and inspection scope without a second round of questions.

  • 2D drawing or 3D model, or a physical sample with the critical interfaces marked.
  • Material grade, or the standard the grade must satisfy.
  • Working pressure and any pressure or leak test the fitting must pass.
  • Joint type and flange standard, including bolt circle, hole diameter and thread form.
  • Critical dimensions and tolerances, plus features that must be machined rather than left as-cast.
  • Surface finish or coating system, including internal linings where specified.
  • Batch quantity and expected annual volume, so the molding line is matched to the part.
  • Marking, labelling and packaging requirements, including pallet or crate pattern.
  • Inspection and documentation level: dimensional report, material certificate, NDT records.
  • Delivery destination, so export packing and transport mode are planned with production.

From Drawing to Delivery

  1. Drawings or samples are reviewed and a quotation is issued after confirmation of the technical scope.
  2. Moulds and patterns are manufactured once the pattern order is placed.
  3. Approval samples are cast and machined, then sent for customer confirmation.
  4. Mass production starts after sample approval and order release.
  5. Inspection is completed by our inspectors or jointly with the customer's representative.
  6. Goods are packed and shipped, by sea for regular volumes or air for urgent items through Ningbo and Shanghai.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply standard pipe fittings from stock?

No. We are a foundry and manufacturer of cast iron parts and produce to customer drawings or samples. Each fitting order is built around the specific joint dimensions, grade and machining scope of the project rather than a stocked catalogue.

How is fitting quality verified before shipment?

Each process step carries its own check, and finished fittings are fully inspected to customer requirements and the referenced standard. Evidence comes from our in-house spectrometer, tensile testing machine, 3 t Brinell tester, sonic velocity meter, metallographic microscope, and magnetic particle or ultrasonic equipment where specified.

What casting capacity do you have for fittings?

Annual capacity is 15,000 tons from two fully automatic clay sand lines, one semi-automatic clay sand line and one coated sand line. Fitting volumes of small and medium size run on two boxless shot-press molding lines at 120 and 100 boxes per hour respectively.

Which markets do your castings reach?

Our products are mainly exported to Germany, Japan, Italy, South Korea and Australia. Regular shipments move by sea, and urgent consignments can travel by air through Ningbo Airport and Shanghai International Airport, both close to our Yancheng plant.

What are your payment terms for fitting production?

Payment terms are confirmed at quotation. For mass production we normally work with a 50% advance payment, with the balance settled after inspection confirmation and before shipment.

Can you combine fittings with other castings in one order?

Yes. Valve accessories, water pump accessories, reducer parts and other ductile iron components are produced in the same foundry, so related items can be scheduled together, inspected under one regime and packed for a single shipment.
