NEWS
Grey Cast Iron Agricultural Machinery Parts Industry knowledge

Yancheng Longwan Machinery Co., Ltd. is a Grey Cast Iron Agricultural Machinery Parts manufacturer based in Caoyan Town, Dafeng District, Yancheng City, Jiangsu, China. Since 2006 we have poured agricultural and engineering castings to customer drawings and samples, alongside automotive, reducer, fire-fighting fitting and industrial robot parts.

Our work in this family centres on the load-bearing and protective iron castings inside tractors, seeders, harvesters and implement frames: end covers that seal transmission internals, bearing seats that carry shaft loads, and the housings, hubs and brackets that hold an assembly together. Serial supply has been built on OEM accounts including Deere, SAIC Group and Bonfiglioli (China), and the same route applies to every agricultural part we quote: drawing review, pattern making, sample approval, then repeat production.

What Our Agricultural Grey Iron Range Covers

Agricultural machinery asks for a material that absorbs vibration, resists abrasive soil and crop contact, machines cleanly and holds its shape over long service intervals. Grey cast iron delivers exactly that balance, which is why the flake-graphite grades remain the default choice for housings, covers and seats in this sector.

Part family Function in the machine Why grey iron fits Confirmed with you
End covers and bearing caps Seal and protect transmission internals from dust, moisture and crop residue Damping capacity and wear resistance at sealing and locating faces Wall thickness, mating-face flatness, bore concentricity, coating
Bearing seats and housings Support, locate and fix rotating shafts under continuous load High compressive strength and good sliding wear behaviour Bore tolerance, coaxiality, mounting pattern, machining allowance
Gearbox and reducer housings (see grey cast iron reducer accessories) Enclose gears, retain lubricant and hold shaft centres Castability of ribbed and cored sections plus vibration damping Core stability, oil-seal faces, pressure-tightness requirement
Pulleys, sheaves and hubs Transmit drive from engine or PTO to implements and conveyors Machinable, dimensionally stable under belt and rope contact Groove profile, runout, keyway tolerance, balance requirement
Brackets, plates and frame elements Tie guards, linkages and implements to the main structure Cast-in ribs and bosses reduce machining and welding operations Boss positions, hole patterns, straightness, edge quality
Pump and valve housings for sprayers and irrigation lines Move water, slurry or hydraulic fluid inside the implement Dense, machinable sections and stable sealing faces Casting soundness, wall thickness, hydrostatic test criteria

Grey Iron and Ductile Iron: Choosing the Right Material for the Drawing

Most agricultural parts are specified in the flake-graphite grades, commonly written EN-GJL-200 to EN-GJL-250 or HT200 and HT250 in the GB system. The graphite flakes act as internal lubricant and vibration sink, which suits covers, seats and housings that see cyclic loads but not heavy impact.

Where a part is exposed to shock, bending or thermal cycling — hitch elements, suspension arms, some axle and linkage components — the drawing normally calls for nodular material instead. We cast both families, so the ductile cast iron agricultural machinery parts range is available when a spheroidal graphite grade is specified. Grade, microstructure and hardness targets are taken from your drawing and confirmed at quotation; where the grade is still open, we review the load case with you before pattern work begins.

Material checkpoints on every heat: chemical composition by German SPECTRO direct-reading spectrometer, tensile properties on cast test bars, 3T Brinell hardness, sonic velocity for structure consistency and metallographic examination of the graphite form.

Molding Capacity and Production Scale

Boxless shot-press molding gives the dimensional consistency that agricultural OEMs expect on repeat orders, and the two lines cover different part weights. Melting is handled by three 1.25 T medium-frequency electric furnaces, with cleaning on three shot blasting machines.

Line and equipment Box size and rate Best-fit agricultural parts
Vertical sand-shot, horizontal parting, boxless shot-press molding line 610 x 510 x 240 mm, 120 boxes/hour High-volume small parts: end covers, small bearing seats, brackets, hubs
Upper and lower sand-shot, horizontal parting, boxless shot-press molding line 750 x 650 x 250 mm, 100 boxes/hour Small and medium parts: housings, larger bearing seats, pulleys
Two automatic and one semi-automatic clay sand lines Annual capacity 15,000 t Serial and mixed-batch production across the range
Coated sand production line Core and shell molding Parts with accurate internal passages and cored cavities
Lost foam line (in planning) 100 kg to 1,000 kg castings Heavier housings and frame components
Machining: 3 CNC lathes and 3 lathes Turning, boring and facing Machined bores, spigots and gasket faces

Machining, Surface Finish and Coating

Castings can be supplied as-cast and shot blasted, or machined on our CNC lathes and lathes to the datums marked on your drawing. Bore diameters, machined face flatness and mounting-hole positions are the dimensions we control most closely, because they set shaft alignment and sealing performance on the assembled machine.

  • Fettling and shot blasting on three cleaning machines before inspection.
  • Machining datum scheme agreed at sample approval, so serial parts locate the same way as the approved sample.
  • An automatic spray painting line and an electrophoretic coating line are planned to extend corrosion protection for export shipments.
  • Threaded inserts, dowel holes and masked areas can be handled if they are called out on the drawing.

Quality Control and Acceptance Testing

We operate under a complete IATF 16949:2016 system standard, which keeps process discipline identical between automotive and agricultural castings. Inspection runs through the whole route: raw material and charge checks, in-process control at molding and pouring, then full inspection of finished parts to your drawing and the applicable standard before shipment.

Testing equipment used on grey iron agricultural parts:

  • German SPECTRO direct-reading spectrometer for chemistry on every heat
  • Universal tensile testing machine for tensile strength on cast bars
  • 3T Brinell hardness tester for hardness at agreed locations
  • Sonic velocity meter and metallographic microscope for structure and graphite form
  • Magnetic particle and ultrasonic flaw detection for surface and internal soundness
  • Sand laboratory: hammer-type sample making machine, hydraulic strength tester, vibration sand screener and infrared dryer for molding sand control

Geometry is checked against the drawing with conventional metrology, and any requirement for high-precision dimensional verification, non-destructive examination or specific acceptance sampling is agreed before production starts, not after. If you prefer joint inspection, our inspectors and your representative can release the batch together at final inspection.

From Drawing to Serial Delivery

  1. Drawing or sample review and quotation. We examine the part, material callout, machining scope and volume, then quote against your confirmed requirements.
  2. Pattern and core box making. Tooling is produced to the casting process we propose, including gating and feeding design.
  3. Sample castings. Real samples are cast from the new tooling, machined where required and sent to you for approval.
  4. Serial production. Production starts after your sample confirmation, using the released drawing revision.
  5. Final inspection. Parts are inspected by our team or jointly with your inspectors, with records released against the batch.
  6. Packing and shipment. Goods are packed to the agreed specification and shipped after inspection release and your confirmation.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

Each quotation and casting process plan is built from the following inputs. Where an item is not yet fixed, we review it with you and propose what fits the machine function.

  • 2D drawing, 3D model or physical sample, including the revision to be manufactured
  • Material grade and the standard or internal specification it must meet
  • Estimated annual volume, batch size and call-off pattern
  • Machining scope: as-cast, shot blasted or fully machined, with datum and tolerance scheme
  • Critical dimensions, geometric tolerances and any functional gauging
  • Test and acceptance requirements, including NDT level or hydrostatic testing where relevant
  • Surface protection: paint colour and finish, or electrophoretic coating
  • Marking, traceability and packaging requirements, plus destination and delivery schedule

Serviceability, Repeat Orders and Delivery Scope

Agricultural parts are replacement parts as well as production parts, so patterns and core boxes are retained after the first order to make repeat runs and aftermarket batches straightforward. Drawing revisions are recorded against the tooling, which keeps a spare-part order identical to the original assembly part.

Our castings are shipped from Jiangsu to customers in Germany, Japan, Italy, South Korea and Australia, normally by sea through the Ningbo and Shanghai gateways, with air freight when a programme requires it. Packaging is agreed per part family to protect machined faces and coating during container handling.

Yancheng Longwan Machinery Co., Ltd. also casts grey cast iron and ductile iron parts for automotive, reducer, valve, water pump and industrial robot applications, so a mixed casting package can be manufactured and inspected under one system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which grey iron grades can you pour for agricultural machinery parts?

We pour to the grade stated on your drawing, typically within the flake-graphite family used for housings, covers and seats. Chemistry is verified per heat on the SPECTRO spectrometer, with tensile strength and Brinell hardness confirmed on cast test material, so the supplied castings match the specified grade rather than an assumed one.

Do you supply standard agricultural parts from stock?

No catalogue of standard parts is held. Production is customised to your drawings or samples, which is why wall thickness, cored passages, machining scope and coating are all defined by your part rather than by a fixed list.

Can you deliver parts fully machined and coated?

Yes. Parts can be supplied as-cast and shot blasted, or machined on our CNC lathes and lathes to your datum scheme. An automatic spray painting line and an electrophoretic coating line are in planning to extend the surface protection options we can offer directly.

How is quality assured on a serial agricultural parts order?

Inspection follows the IATF 16949:2016 system through raw material checks, in-process control and final full inspection before shipment. Depending on the part, this includes spectrometry, tensile and hardness testing, metallographic and sonic velocity checks, magnetic particle or ultrasonic testing, and dimensional verification against the drawing.

What happens to the tooling for repeat and spare-part orders?

Patterns and core boxes are kept after the initial order and tied to the released drawing revision. Repeat production and aftermarket batches are then cast from the same tooling, keeping replacement parts interchangeable with the original assembly part.
